When the crunch came..........

It was my turn to do the late shift last night on arrivals. I don't mind at all: its great meeting the guests and showing them our villas. Last night, I was checking in Villa Stavroulla, in Peyia. Its so beautiful and is like a tardis. No-one who sees the photos can really believe how large and lovely the villa is - and I get a kick watching their faces as each new room is revealed.

Over 40 minutes late, the guests were checked in just after midnight and I went through the details with them, then left them for the short drive home. Thankfully, they stopped me again just as I was driving off - and that delay helped me tremendously coz, on the long and fast bend on the main road near the villa, there was the most almighty smash, with 4 cars tearing each other to shreds - and I missed it by a nanosecond.

Two other drivers stopped to help and I rushed further up the hill to the police station - quicker than trying to ring and explain. Mr Andros, one of our village cops, was on duty and was great. He got the patrol out immediately - then offered me a cup of tea whilst we chatted about life in Peyia and the pains and pleasures of late night work!

Waving me off, he wished me good night and safe work - and I know for a fact we are safe coz we're surrounded by people in the village of Peyia who actually do look out for each other.
