Peyia

This is our favourite village – not least because we live here! Set on the gentle sloping hills above the Coral Bay resort, Peyia is an unusual mix of old traditional buildings and way of life with a good sprinkling of incomers (mainly British) who have encouraged some development in the village – particularly influencing the vast choice of food available!
This village has a pretty old church nestled above the municipality gardens, which are hidden by sweeping fragrant trees. Many weddings are held in the privacy of these gardens – and the locals love to come and watch!
A pretty village to "strut" up and down, there is nothing much to do or see here unless your hobby is people watching and enjoying seeing the local men partake of generous quantities of coffee and stare at the passers by.
A very gentle, slow pace of life but great choice of eateries!
Going to The Jail!
Of course, we would be remiss not to mention our local pub, The Jail. A traditional stone building which was once the local jail and after that, home to the local tailor, The Jail offers a warm welcome to locals and tourists alike. The owner, Stephanos is ably assisted by his father, Kyriakos- who, now in his 70s, loves nothing more than to dance for you and to feed you peanuts and homemade popcorn: thankfully, not at the same time!
The Jail is a tiny pub with a huge heart. Everyone is welcomed warmly; treated individually and encouraged to stay for " one more for the road". With a mix of local beers and wines and the more well known European drinks, The Jail caters for everyone - and all ages. Children are welcome to come and play pool - with the pool table snugly fitting into the tiny pub so the drinkers can to move to accomodate the players and their "angles". Well worth a visit!
